Copyrighting your images

When we are talking about protecting your images, one of the important issues to address is making sure that your copyright information gets into all of your files. The way we do this through Photoshop, Illustrator or the Creative Suite is through the metadata template.

You can access your file info either in Photoshop or Bridge by going to the File > File Info, or you could access them faster using a shortcut key by pressing [Alt+Shift+Ctrl+I].

In this popup menu, you can enter all the copyright information that you would like to be included in your image file. Once you saved it, anywhere the image goes, that metadata goes with it. This copyright info will be included to the specific file that you have chosen. If you want to put this metadata information to all your images, you must save this metadata as a basic metadata template. (Refer to Figure 1)

Once you have named your metadata template, in this case I named them as "Webforumz All Rights Reserved 2007", you can take any number of images that you want or you could select all of your images and go over to the metadata portion/tab of Bridge interface and choose Append Metadata. (Refer to Figure 2)

Append = for copyright information only (not replacing field info like the keyword field). Replace = overwrite the existing copyright information (and all other the field)

Once you are done with it, that's it! Now, every image file that you have will have your copyright information stored with it as metadata. Everyone that opens your images knows where this image comes from, who the author is, and most importantly the copyright status.

You could see the copyright information from the Filter tab on the left bottom portion (Figure 3), and for more detailed information on that specific image, go to the File Properties on the right bottom portion of your Bridge interface (Figure 4).
